The brief from our customer (Fluid & Water Technologies South Africa) was to design & supply a control system for a containerized filtration plant to be installed at Summer Pride in East London.
The plant can process 30 cubic (30 000) litres of condensate water an hour with a municipal top-up if required. It uses glass media as well as carbon filters with pressure differential-based backwashing. FWT once again use their proprietary Chlorine Dioxide generating system for dosing. Part of this process are 2 x 1 million litre dams! These need to be monitored and controlled with both CLO2 dosing and PH correction. We had to take into consideration a RO plant which was part of the original setup.
The control system also includes an early warning & fault monitoring SMS system which will alert the customer to any problems with tank levels, pipe pressures, flow faults & pump problems. The system also features a data capturing module that sends out a trending graph via email to selected recipients every morning.
The PLC, Variable Speed Drives & HMI used are LS Electrical, for which we are the System Integrators in the Eastern Cape. This equipment continues to impress us with its durability, reliability, cost effectiveness & availability. All programming software is free and is quick & easy to use.
